NYU Langone Orthopedics’ Center for Amputation Reconstruction has launched a new webinar series designed to bring together international specialists to discuss cutting-edge research in upper-extremity reconstruction.

The first webinar in the series, “Feeling the Future—Advances in Sensation for Upper Extremity Amputees,” was held in May 2025. Because lack of sensation is one of the greatest barriers to functional limb use, research aimed at restoring sensation is rapidly accelerating and showing significant promise.

During the webinar, three world-renowned experts—Alexander Gardetto, MD (Brixsana Private Clinic, Italy); Silvestro Micera, MD, PhD (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland); and Dustin J. Tyler, PhD (Case Western Reserve University, U.S.)—presented their latest work in sensory restoration. They covered innovations ranging from total shoulder replacement (TSR) with sensation and proprioception of individual fingers to prostheses with bidirectional sensory feedback. This session was moderated by NYU Langone specialists Jacques H. Hacquebord, MD, and Omri B. Ayalon, MD.
